I don’t know what brought me to this idea but I thought it would be fun sketching some random scenes from a movie I was watching. I prefer to sketch from life but I really had fun doing this. Of course, part way through I realised I had set myself the task of doing 4 sketches in one evening, albeit small ones! Can you guess the movie?…highly underrated I think.

Here is one of my parents watching the TV. They don’t think much of it and said that “it’s awful”. Well, I admit that the sketch of my mum looks pretty dire and it doesn’t look like them very much, but I am trying! My other excuse is that it was done very quickly.

Last Saturday we went to see the latest Fantastic Beasts movie and ate at a place called the Old Spaghetti House beforehand. I only had a few moments to draw so the obvious subject was my daughter right in front of me (I coloured it later). It’s not a great likeness – her eyes are too far apart and her chin is a bit pointy (though I tried to correct that).

On Saturday we treated ourselves to seeing Solo (the Star Wars film) at the Directors Club (a fancy cinema in the nearby mall, where they have lazy boy chairs!). I drew this while we waited to go in.

Here is my sketch from last night, done while watching a movie called I Remember You set in Iceland. This is a avocado stone which we are attempting to grow by suspending the bottom of it in water…no sign of any shoots yet!

Here is the quick still life sketch I did last night while watching a movie. In the bowl are sunflower seeds which are my wife’s favourite evening snack at the moment. The glass flask is for drinking green tea.

Last night, watching a rubbishy movie before I went to bed, I started doodling the living room and just carried on to the next page…I seem to have an obsession with double page spreads at the moment. I confess though I got tired, so added the colour this morning.
