These little vignette sketches are a summary of my day last Saturday, when we went to the Market Market! mall with our eldest daughter, before she headed back to the UK. She wanted to go to Chicken Bacolod first as they have a dish which she loves. Then she and I had a dental check up (a lot more affordable here than in the UK) and in the evening we just chilled watching TV.

Here is a sketch I did at the mall last night, where we stopped for a drink and waited for my wife to finish an online meeting. I only had time to paint the yellow and green bits, but decided that was enough anyway!

Here is the second sketch I did on Friday – it started raining while I was waiting for our car to be ready, so I took cover in mall. The mall is eerily empty, but this little shop that sells balloons and party gear is still open. So many of these little shops are going to struggle to stay in business, such a shame.

This sketch was done outside Market Market! (the local mall) waiting for my wife so we could go and buy new glasses together. In this area they always have little booths set up with people hawking their wares over the electronic equivalent of a megaphone. Usually the stalls seems to be selling what look like cheap knock-offs. The nicest part of this spot is the curvy seats decorated with broken tiles…difficult to paint though!

Stopped for a fruit juice today after an afternoon of trudging round the shops. Here is the view I had while my wife and I sketched. I did this in ink, watercolour and watercolour pencils.
At the mall today, waiting for some printing to be done, I decided to do a bigger drawing than normal (a double spread in my A5 sketchbook – in ink, watercolour and watercolour pencil). The drawing took a bit longer than normal and I started to get cramp in my legs sitting awkwardly on a step! “The fun is in the finds” is the catch phrase of the mall…and those trees are fake, needless to say.
