67-2211 – Dela Rosa Walkway

Here is the second sketch I did with #UskManila on Saturday. This view is at the end of Legazpi Street looking northwest along Dela Rosa street in Makati. The walkway runs the length of Dela Rosa for more than a kilometre connecting various buildings. The last section of it was completed in 2018.

67-2210 – PNB Legazpi St., Makati

Today I joined #UskManila in Makati for a sketch-walk in Legazpi Village. This is my first sketch – behind that dark tree is a branch of the Philippine National Bank (PNB). I do love sketching in the city…especially where there are lots of soaring buildings and clashing styles.

1744 – Dolphins in Makati

On Friday I was in Makati to get my watch fixed – done in no time in the Seiko service centre. Afterwards I took the opportunity to sketch in a new place. This quiet little garden (with lots of friendly stray cats) is on one of the roundabouts…surrounded by several road lanes. The fountain that the dolphins were in is dry at the moment…but I can imagine with the water flowing it would be lovely and refreshing.

1237 – Another mall

Yesterday I was out in Makati (trying to get my laptop fixed which I am told is a ‘vintage’ MacBook) and sketched this when I stopped for a coffee. This is Gloritetta 4 and I was in Gloriettta 5 …there are so many malls in Makati, you could probably cross the city without going outside.

1032 – Coffee at the Antipodean by the roadside

When I started this sketch I was in the shade on a terrace. In no time at all the sun began to beat down on my back and it wasn’t even 8am yet! However it’s nice to have coffee somewhere other than Starbucks – but being in Makati (I was there to make an insurance claim) I was expecting significant expense. I was pleasantly surprised though! Antipodean isn’t a word used that often – it means someone from Australia or New Zealand…I had to look it up! I guess the owner of this place is from the Southern Hemisphere.

856 – Lamps and frames

I missed a day yesterday, so I will try to catch up today. Here is one I did at a coffee shop in Makati. The tall room was lit with long hanging lamps and at the back they had this huge wood-clad column decorated with pictures.

#615 – Pasig river, in Makati

Today I made my “annual appearance” at the immigration office – foreigners resident in the Philippines have to show up at the beginning of the year to prove they are still here. On my way back I stopped along Pasig River (which today wasn’t as smelly as it was last year) and drew this. The odd shaped building is part of Acqua Private Residences – the big blocks rising around it – which are shrouded in green mesh while under construction. To the left are lot of little higgledy-piggledy houses, which frankly look a lot nicer!
