87-2715-6 – Visiting Venice mime

Here are the sketches I did with my friends and fellow sketchers @revcruz, @the_uban_sketcher and @maydomingoprice at #VeniceGrandCanalMall in Taguig. This mall is inspired (I think in a slightly kitsch way) by the Grand Canal in Venice, with an Italian theme and a canal (though it looks more like a shallow swimming pool) running through it where guests can ride on gondolas. For these sketches I used a concertina #Potentate sketchbook given to me by my friend, so I tried to join these two sketches together – although they were done in different spots along the canal. The sketch on the left is meant to be the Rialto Bridge, the half on the right is a mime, of which there are many all wearing different costumes, around the mall.

87-2711-4 – Pebbles reclining and upright

Here are the #LifeDrawing sketches I did with Eric David and the #SilawArtistCollective, in Eastwood, with the model (Pebbles – I hope I got her name right) posing in Eric’s wearable art. Each pose was about 20-25 minutes and I used watercolour pencils, ink and watercolour.

87-2710 – Three for three

These three little glasses/cups come from three different countries that I have had the privilege of working in. The one at the back is a tea glass from Turkey (not actually bought when I was there last year), the glass on the left is a tea glass from Cambodia (nothing posh but the most basic type made from recycled glass) and the cup on the right comes from a set of espresso coffee cups from Syria.

87-2709 – May’s birks

I realised the other day, that I haven’t sketched these sandals…even though I tend to sketch all the new shoes we get these days. Somehow I didn’t get the proportions of these right…the one on the right looks like a high heel sandal! Oh well, never mind.

87-2708 – All home all car

This sketch was done during a visit we made to Vista Mall, down the road from us, to buy some DIY stuff (at All Home). After we had done our shopping we had a donut and coffee at a little Krispy Kreme stand. This car was inside the mall – maybe some kind of prize or just promotional?

87-2707 – Melon

Here is a simple sketch of another of my ‘go-to’ subjects – whatever fruit that we happen to have in the fruit basket. This basket is actually half of a “Bangchung” – a bamboo container made in Bhutan and traditionally used to carry your lunch or for serving food and snacks to guests. With the other semi-spherical half, it snaps together to make a container.

87-2705-6 – Lights…cameraman – Discover biodiversity

Here are the other sketches I did when I joined #UskManila at the #DiscoverBiodiversity event at the Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City, celebrating International Day for Biodiversity. The cameraman was a popular subject for us sketchers (while the talks were going on several of us drew him). I found out afterwards (with the help of @nice.r.rodriguez) that the lights I drew are called Klieg Lights (named after inventor John Kliegl and his brother Anton Kliegl).

87-2703 – Honey pot

Here is one of my go-to subjects – just something random from the fridge. Every time we buy honey I doubt whether it really is honey or not. This is because in 2020 the Department of Science and Technology found that about 80% of honey products sold in shops in the Philippines were not pure honey. Most were composed of sugar syrup – although all the imported products they tested were not found to be adulterated.

This will be my first post on Cara (https://cara.app/art-chap-enjoin) – I am testing out a new social media site as I am a bit fed up with IG (and Facebook). While I am not bothered about trying to sell stuff through IG, try not to care about numbers of followers and likes and have my own blog site (artchapenjoin.com), the fact that Meta makes it almost impossible to opt out of AI scraping (even though it can most likely be done from everywhere else my drawings are posted) and that many artists are losing their livelihood to AI, makes me want to at least purge my accounts a little.

87-2700 – Cooking only

Here is another sketch of a random object from our pantry. This is a bottle of (SM Bonus) rice wine that we bought a long time ago, just for cooking. In fact it’s so rough, that it’s barely good enough for that!
