Often the simplest things are most satisfying to sketch. I enjoyed getting the texture of the chopping board in this one and the contrast with the colour of the cup.

We bought an extra tank of LPG last week (and found a space to keep it in our tiny apartment), just in case (because of this foolish and dreadful war) cooking gas becomes too scarce and expensive. God know when the current crisis will end and the world comes to its senses.

We bought this Asahi kettle last year. It’s rather fancy in that it’s glass and has settings for different temperatures and coloured lights to indicate what it’s up to. Unfortunately one of darling our cats knocked it off the worktop soon after we got it the plastic at the bottom cracked. It still works but leaks a little…and my attempt at sealing the hole did not work.

We have been waiting, nagging, reminding, complaining and following up with our ISP (Converge), for a router upgrade that we started paying for in September 2025. Then out of the blue we suddenly had a visit from their engineers and they installed the new device. Of course the speed of our internet connection didn’t improve much! Included in the package was a little box that connects to the TV and gives us local channels…so we now have four remote controls to lose down the side of the couch!

Here are some keys accidentally left behind by our daughter’s partner when they went back to the UK. I was thinking of sketching some keys but this key ring is a lot more interesting than mine …with lots of dangly little tags and pouches, several of which, I think, were recently bought from the ArtWork store in Market Market!

For this sketch I was just doodling around in the evening. This plastic bin holds our collection of freebie (mostly BDO) umbrellas, several of which we haven’t even opened! The whole thing only avoids falling over because the an ancient heavyweight socket-set (something I used in the UK when I actually did a tiny bit of car maintenance) at the bottom (why we still have that I don’t know).

I finished wrapping advent calendar presents (we have a home made one with pockets that are far too big). I think the #Usk prompt (recently) was something to do with gift wrapping to I quickly sketched our bag of reused wrapping paper scraps…some of which have been used multiple times and have names in marker pen crossed out!

For me sketching is about practicing, and drawing even the simplest thing helps. I think I need to improve sketching folds and shadows in fabric so why not this (folded pair of hiking trousers)?

Here is the calamansi marmalade that I made (see sketch No.109-3266). It didn’t exactly set (not enough pectin I suppose) but I reduced it enough that it’s not runny.
