120-3488 – Ear time at Clinica Manila

I did this sketch while I was waiting for the doctor, when we went to the clinic to get my ears syringed out again. I used the cheap coloured pencils I had been given at the sketchwalk at the National Museum, plus a little bit of ink. This helped me relax a bit as my blocked ears were really stressing me out (update…since I sketched this all is good with my ears!).

113-3349-50 – No heads and more waiting at the clinic

These two sketches were done during an orthopaedic visit for my wife as her torn ligament just didn’t seem to be getting better. There was a long queue at the outpatients consulting area as ever, plus of course the doctor showed up at least an hour late. I had tried to clean the blue ink from my Lamy pen before I did this sketch (and put the grey ink back in), but it was still blocked up.

107-3201 – Medical records

Here is another sketch done in a crowd – this time waiting in a corridor for my wife’s medical records to be released. I sketched the heads on the left first, followed by a bundle of legs below them – I’m not sure if they meet up properly!

107-3180 – Chair sketched in the crease

I sketched this as I waited for my wife to come back from her operation in PGH. The doc gave me a scare when I was called down to the OR. But it turned out it was just so she could tell me that everything went well! Now it’s just recovery time. After I did this sketch I realised the chair actually folds out into another bed…for a second watcher! Somehow I keep extending my sketches onto the next page…maybe I should switch to a square format sketchbook?

107-3179 – Gloomy towers outside PGH

I sketched this the day my wife went in for an operation at Philippine General Hospital (PGH). We had checked in the previous day and then had a sleepless night with doctors and nurses continually coming into the room to take her vitals, check she has taken her preparatory meds and put her on a drip. I was the official ‘watcher’ – that is a person who stays with a patient in hospital to provide support and assistance – mostly because hospitals don’t seem to have sufficient resources to constantly monitor patients.

106-3173 – Painting of a wall

I sketched this when accompanying my wife for her consultation at PGH. We sat on hard benches in corridors and there was lots of waiting. We thought we were ½ hour late, but the doctor hadn’t even shown up by the time we got there.

103-3095 – Ear nose throat

Here is some more people sketching done at the Medical Center Taguig – this time for me to get my ears unblocked. Hospital waiting areas are great spots to surreptitiously draw people … especially when you have to wait for ages.
