74-2386 – St Luke’s

Here is another sketch that was left unfinished in my sketchbook. I did this while I was at hospital for a checkup – and had to wait for my appointment. I remember is sitting in Starbucks, having a nice coffee, to draw this…especially as it is one of those rare sketches I was pleased with!

2042 – In the seniors queue

I visited the hospital the other day for a regular check up. The pathology waiting area was packed full (they have introduced a new system) and they had set up these extra desks to serve people faster, so I sketched them while I waited. I am not quite a “senior” yet but the lady handing out the tickets for queuing up assumed I was (maybe my blonde/white hair?)…I had hoped that would mean I could get to the cashier faster, but it still took several hours.

1925 – Please do not sit here

Today I was visiting the hospital again (I do not like hospitals at all – even to sketch) to see my doctor after my recent op. All is well thank goodness. I arrived a bit late thinking I might have missed my appointment, only to find he had temporarily moved his clinic to another building and that there were lots of people in the queue before me. At least that gave me a chance to do this quick sketch (I added the watercolour when I got home) of the socially distanced waiting area.

928 – Hospital colours

I sketched this while waiting for my mum to have a pre-op check up for cataract surgery. The hospital staff, nurses and doctors were working at an incredible pace – so many patients coming and going. It must be exhausting.

If I recall correctly hospitals are often painted in these colours as they are supposed to be calming and make you feel better!

This is a drawing from last week when I was waiting at the hospital for my wife’s checkup – I just haven’t had time to post it. The walls really were that colour…maybe it was supposed to make you feel calm.

#510 – Counter 2

ACE.510-counter 2 170930-2-wm

Yesterday I spent almost all day at Manila Doctors Hospital accompanying my wife while she got her annual check up. It took all that time just to get four simple tests done – never mind collect the results etc. The inefficiency of the health system here amazes me. Naturally, apart from nodding off while waiting every now and then, I did some sketching – this is the first.
