1676 – Over watering time

Here is a little sunny spot on our balcony. I water our plants every day with these two watering cans (the thing on the right is a red basket full of dead leaves)…it seems I over water them a bit. But then again in this climate (at this time of year) if I leave some (particularly the mint) for just a day, they wilt and look so forlorn!

1634 – Saving eggshells

We have been saving up eggshells to crush and put in our plant pots – apparently as they decompose they enrich the soil, providing a slow steady source of calcium which prevents ‘end rot’ whatever that is. Saves us just chucking them in the bin!

1424 – The garden

On Sunday I joined #Kyusisketchers again for a virtual meet up. The theme was “Garden”, so, as we live in an apartment, I sketched the common garden area from our balcony. It was roasting hot out there so this was done very quickly. I was pleased with the way I got the sunlight on the grass…but the trees ended up as a solid green blob!

1128 – Nice garden

My sister is an avid gardener and each time we visit we get a tour, when we are encouraged make compliments and say “nice garden”. Despite people telling me its warm weather here, it’s still cool compared to the Philippines, so I drew this from the comfort of the dining room!

752 – Garden

Here is my sketch for the second day of the June Doodlewash challenge, the prompt being “gardens”. Our balcony serves as our garden – it’s so overloaded with plants there is barely room to get out there!

#466 – Yu gardens

On our first day in Shanghai we foolishly decided to walk (in the heat of the day) to the Yu Gardens (a historic garden first built in the Ming Dynasty). We were hot and tired by the time we got there and had our first experience of the incredible crowds you get at major tourist spots in China. Even so we enjoyed the visit and I had a chance to do this sketch.
