78-2485 – Dried fish

The next subject for #Sketchtober2023 from #UskQuezonCity (for the 5th October…as usual I am a few days behind) was ‘native product’. So this is definitely not an #UrbanSketch because I took these little dried fish out of the fridge to sketch. I think they are called Danggit…there are so many types of dried fish here, I lose track. I don’t eat them being a vegetarian…and frankly I wonder how much nourishment you can get from these little dried things as they are mostly skin and bone!

1886 – Open

Here is my sketch for Day 22 of #Inktober2021, the prompt being “open”. This is a tiny little silver box (probably something we bought in Bhutan) with a strange fish design. The drawing is almost life size…in fact I had to peer closely at the little fish in order to see it properly (failing eyesight!)

1668 – Flopping fish

Last week we bought this toy for our cat…I had the impression she was a bit bored and felt sorry for her. It’s a soft toy with a little rechargeable motor inside which flaps the tail up and down for a minute when it’s touched. I’d read on line that some cats were scared of it, but when we got it, Tintin (our cat), just looked at it and walked away, thoroughly disinterested. Now we regularly trip over the fish, it starts flapping and making whirring noises, and Tintin looks up …and then goes back to sleep.

1175 – Childhood fish

Here is a quick sketch I did one evening of a glass fish that parents have – probably Murano glass. This is an object that I remember always being in the hallway of my parents house from a very early age and I thought I would sketch it to cement that memory.

1086 – Big fish

I like staying at Airbnb places because they always have character – rather than hotel rooms which could be anywhere. So…this of course leads me to sketching bits and bobs around the houses that I stay in. This is a bit of wooden bric-a-brac that my landlady has in the house.

I’m pretty sure “Big Fish” is the name of the place where I learnt to scuba dive in Thailand…don’t know why that popped into my head!

755 – Shark!

Here is my sketch for the Doodlewash prompt of “fish” for Thursday 7 June. This is a little coin purse I have….I was watching Jaws 2 while drawing it as well (not exactly a fish but close)!

717 – Jellies and fish bowl

Today’s Doodlewash May challenge prompt is “Jellyfish”. As I always draw from life (and don’t happen to have some jellyfish in a tank), I decided to draw some jelly sweets and a ceramic bowl with fish on it. The bowl is part of a set from Cambodia (though they are made in Vietnam).

#601 – Fresh paluto

Today, after I’d done our weekly shopping I had a moment to sketch a scene at the food court of the hyper-mart. I doubt many people look up but there are odd shaped lights and a green and blue circular skylight over the whole area. I think fresh Paluto means “freshly cooked”…I am sure some of my Filipino friends will correct me if I’m wrong!
