84-2633 – Two elephants

So after all my busy urban sketching it’s back to some still life-type sketches at home again. I’ve probably sketched these two objects before, but I thought they would go well together. The wooden elephant came from when we lived in Cambodia I think and the elephant mug was a present from our daughter when she made a school trip to South Africa.

75-2408 – Laxfield elephant

Here is the first sketch I did on our trip to the UK – done at Laxfield House, where my mum stays, while we were visiting. I am not sure what type of plant that is, but the elephant was something I bought back from Cambodia. It’s a huge china pot stand, actually made in Vietnam – which I remember hand carrying all the way back to the UK. It’s amazing they let me take it as hand carry and also amazing that it didn’t break!

1780 – Noah’s ark

On Sunday we took a trip out of town with some friends to “Kamal Ni Hesus” (the hand of Jesus) – a pilgrimage site in Lucban with a big statue of Jesus on top of a hill. The site also included the Garden of Eden with concrete statues of Adam and Eve as well as these concrete animals (to the right of the elephant there are two polar bears and there were many other animals scattered about). I didn’t realise until I had finished sketching but the building in the background (which is a guesthouse) is built in the shape of the ark even including a deck and statues of other animals.

936 – Elephant in Lavenham

Here are a few peculiar things you can see outside a furniture shop (Marshbeck Interiors) opposite where my parents live. I’ve these passed several times and couldn’t resist sketching them. There is an elephant that seems to be made of driftwood and two huge chairs, one which straddles a low wall. I guess the chairs are there as a sign for the shop…as for the elephant, I am not sure!

#544 – Tea with elephant

ACE.544-tea with elephant 171113-2-wm

Here is the quick doodle I did today. I did start another drawing while waiting to get a haircut but didn’t get close to finishing it as the barber was much faster with the customer before me than I expected. The elephant in the title is the image on the mug.
