95-2879 – Week 6

95-2879 – Week 6

Here is my sixth and final version of the “same subject different ways” challenge with @koosjekoene – this time using water soluble ink to draw the #StillLife. I use my ancient #Rotring sketching pen which I keep filled with Parker black ink and couldn’t resist adding a little colour using my #Derwent watercolour pencils. Somehow it ended up looking a little feeble compared to my earlier and bolder efforts.

94-2864 – Continuous line

Here is my fifth version of the “same subject different ways” challenge with @koosjekoene – this time using a continuous line (not taking the pen off the paper) to draw the #StillLife. After the line-work I used my #MontMarte watercolour marker pens to add the colour (plus a little bit of conventional watercolour). I struggle with the marker pens a bit because they tend to eat the surface of the paper if I apply more than one stroke…also my line work seems to have disappeared under the paint!

94-2856 – Discover-explore

Here is version four of the “same subject different ways” challenge with @koosjekoene – this time limiting my palette to two colours only, picking out the leaf green of the teapot and the cobalt blue of the cup. I thought I could combine this sketch with the #Inktober2024 prompt for day 2, which is “discover”, as following the #DrawTipTuesday challenge is a #CreativeExploration for me. I added some highlights with a #PoscaPen and some shadows with my trusty #UniballEye pen.

94-2851 – What I am drinking

Having taken a more splashy approach with the sketch before this, I decided to have another go, using the same approach to sketch this bottle of wine and glass. I was pleased with the colours in this – I added some highlights with a #PoscaPen and watercolour pencils. The wine is Carlo Rossi California Red by the way…not very special, but drinkable.

94-2850 – Different ways 3

Here is version three of the “same subject different ways” challenge with @koosjekoene – this time doing splashes of watercolour first then doing line-work with watercolour pencils (I dip them in water to soften the tip). I am still stuck in following the colours I see in the subject…but I will eventually get out of this rigid approach I hope.

93-2846 – No water

After the last sketch I posted when I used my dip pen, I thought I’d have another go using it, but avoid the ink running by only using watercolour pencils and not wetting them afterwards. My subject is just some random cleaning stuff I found in our house. Somehow I wasn’t satisfied with this effort as it just feels too “scratchy”!

93-2845 – Same subject 2

This is my second sketch following the challenge of @koosjekoene and her draw tip Tuesday suggestion to draw the same subject each week – but with different tools and techniques. This time (following her approach, although that’s not really essential), I used a dip pen and some Sailor brand black ink. I haven’t used my dip pen for years and it was great fun to use it again – it’s very versatile and can make quite fine lines. I added watercolour afterwards…and the sketch ended up almost like the one I did the previous week! – although the ink also ran a bit as it is slightly water-soluble. Next time I will be more adventurous with my choice of colouring materials.

93-2841 – Same subject different ways

With this sketch I followed the challenge of @koosjekoene and her draw tip Tuesday suggest to draw the same subject each week – but with different tools and techniques…embracing the wonkiness. She drew coffee stuff – but as I am a Brit, I thought tea suffered would be a good subject!
