110-3268 – Umae colours

In this sketch I am testing out a sample of #Umae watercolours that I was given at the #ArtSihan event on 5 October (from Gift Box). The range of colours in the bottom colour wheeel (for comparison) is the mix I have in my palette at the moment – mostly Holbein Watercolours and Daniel Smith. This sketch is also done on some new paper (#DalerRowney Smooth-Heavyweight 220 g/m2).

95-2865 – Hike

Here is my sketch for Day 8 of #Inktober2024 following the “Hike” prompt. I sketched these hiking shoes back in 2021 (see sketch No. 1702) – when I hadn’t worn them much. Now they are a bit tired out and need some repair work done.

This was done in a new sketchbook with some random paper for the first and last pages. Most of this sketchbook is made from Daler-Rowney Aquafine 300gsm, but as I seemed to be short of my usual 10 A4 sheets (that makes the right thickness of an A5 sketchbook for me), I added in a sheet or two from an ancient pad of “Langton” paper (also made by Daler-Rowney). It takes the paint rather differently – I like it. The pad is something leftover from my teenage years!

77-2439 – New sketchbook, new paper, new brushes

The other day I started a new sketchbook, this time with some Daler Rowney cold pressed 300 gsm Aquafine paper (which I have never tried before). I bought it from the Fred Aldous art shop in Manchester (my second favourite art shop), along a new Winsor & Newton pure squirrel brush (I bought the bigger one in my favourite art shop (Denny’s in Bury St. Edmunds). The little water brush is a Faber-Castell water brush which my daughters got me, and which is turning out to work very well. The squirrel brushes are fantastic – they keep a very sharp point and hold a lot of paint.
