82-2586 – Just one more

After #CCPPasinaya2024 last weekend, a group of us went to Harbour Square to do just one more sketch before heading to Quezon City to help put up the Fifth Anniversary Exhibition of #UskQuezonCity. I was joined by my sketching friends @theartistpaul2020, @reuelgarzon and Edgardo Granada. Of course (after the usual awful traffic…you can always blame it on the traffic) we ended up arriving at the exhibition venue (the Presidential Car Museum) a bit late.

78-2486 – New yeast

The next #UskQuezonCity prompt for #Sketchtober2023 was ‘bread’ (for Day 6) and although I have recently draw the results of my bread making, I didn’t hesitate to draw this new loaf. After a few failures (rock hard or doughy loaves) I bought some new yeast and this was the solution. This loaf (the Kenwood recipe calls it ‘rustic white’) came out perfectly.

78-2485 – Dried fish

The next subject for #Sketchtober2023 from #UskQuezonCity (for the 5th October…as usual I am a few days behind) was ‘native product’. So this is definitely not an #UrbanSketch because I took these little dried fish out of the fridge to sketch. I think they are called Danggit…there are so many types of dried fish here, I lose track. I don’t eat them being a vegetarian…and frankly I wonder how much nourishment you can get from these little dried things as they are mostly skin and bone!

78-2484 – Fruit

Following the #Sketchtober2023 prompts gives me a good excuse for sketching some fruit (the prompt for day 4). These are plantains – they taste a lot nicer than they look. I find they don’t go off as quickly as bananas (which they are related to)…but seem to be a lot higher in calories! I wasn’t careful where I put the plantains in this sketch, so had to put in more background than I usually do…but somehow I think it works.

78-2483 – Vaude bag – Cycle 28

I couldn’t think of a way to draw both the #Inktober2023 and #Sketchtober2023 prompts in one sketch the other night (the suggestions were ‘path’ and ‘bag’), so I opted for the easier one. This is a pannier/backpack that clips to the frame on the back of my bike. Best thing I ever bought – it works perfectly and is fantastic quality (no I am not sponsored by Vaude). I have had to fudge the scan of this, stitching two images together as our Epson scanner lamp is faulty and leaves a white line through the middle…thanks Epson.

78-2479 – Glue gun

Having enjoyed two full days of #UrbanSketching, I went back to just sketching things around the house with this one. I have been repairing our cats scratching poles (which they regularly destroy with their sharp claws…along with our furniture) and used this glue gun to reattach all the sisal rope.

78-2481 – Chair and dream

I am posting out of order as usual, and with this sketch I am making a tenuous link to both the first day of #Inktober (prompt of “dream”) and #Sketchtober2023 from #UskQuezonCity (prompt of “chair”). Killing two birds with one sketch as they (don’t) say. The most tenuous link is to the prompt of dream – on the stool is the next book I am going to read – part two of a series, the first of which was called “The Dreaming Void”.

74-2400 – Last sketch in Türkiye

Of course my last sketch in a country (when I have been on a work trip), is going to be at the airport! This wasn’t the plane I was on, but this was the gate I left from. The plane pulled away half-way through my sketch, so some of this was guesswork and reference to a photo I took. Rule number one when sketching something that might move: take a quick snapshot first!
