91-2785 – Loungers

This sketch was started in “Edmundo Lounge” in Bury St. Edmunds where we had lunch on the third full day of our holiday. We drove to Bury to do some shopping for camping gear, in anticipation of the next leg of our trip, when we will camp at the Womad (World of Music Arts and Dance) festival in Wiltshire. I finished off the sketch at home.

90-2772 – Birthday flowers

These days, every time one of us gets flowers, I sketch them. These pink roses, carnations and daisies were given to my wife for her birthday, by our daughters. I sketched them using #Derwent watercolour pencils and a little bit of ink.

90-2771 – Cosmic Kapitolyo

This sketch was done while we waited for dinner at a new vegetarian restaurant (for us) that we went out to for my wife’s birthday. The waiter told us that they opened during the pandemic…they have another branch in Makati, Barangay Poblacion. The food was great, served quickly and the place has a nice atmosphere. It was strange though that there didn’t seem to be a single sign on the road to tell you the place was there – we had to ask someone in order to find it.

90-2770 – Minor basilica and archdiocesan shrine

This sketch was done at the local Saint Anne Parish church, where we cycled to last Sunday morning. The first church on this site was built in 1609 but after several earthquakes the present one was started in 1883. I sketched here way back on 12 May 2016, when I first began sketching regularly (see post No.40 on my blog). That time I managed to get the whole tower in…my current small format sketchbook tends to make me focus on details…that’s my excuse anyway.

90-2769 – Elephant ears with breakfast

This little sketch was done outside the #BrewHilde coffee shop down the road from us, when we went out for a walk and breakfast on my wife’s birthday morning. I’ve sketched here many times before, but this time these plants caught my eye – they are commonly knows as elephant-ear plants but the scientific name is Colocasia.

90-2768 – Hiker

I rarely do sketches from photos, but made an exception so I could make a little birthday card for my wife. This was done from a photo taken on our hike to Nagpatong rock in Tanay, Rizal, in June 2022 (see sketch No.2093), with May wearing the shirt she almost always wears when we go hiking!

90-2763-66 – Ayala Museum

Green jar 17th century

These are the sketches I did at the #AyalaMuseum when I visited the #WorldsWithinWorlds exhibition (in which some friends were participating). I only took a small bag and watercolour palette, planning to use only water brushes (the museum is strict on what you can take in). I did these sketches standing up while crowds of people concentrated on taking photos of themselves or the exhibits. The models of the ships were huge…I drew the Spanish galleon twice as my first attempt didn’t really capture it.

90-2759-62 – Four drawings of General Tapioca

I did these little sketches in the evenings, following one of our cats around the living room. It was his birthday the other day…so I thought it was time I sketched him again. Usually he hides under the table…but then moves around as soon as I start sketching him. I think he knows what I am doing, so doesn’t stay still for long – and as soon as I get up he steals my seat.

90-2757-8 – Miro tea box and tool cleaning

Here are a couple of little random sketches of things around the house. The first is of a lacquer box that was given to me when I finished working on a project in Cambodia. We keep tea bags in it. The second is of a pair of tin snippers – looking a bit rusty. I really need to clean the tools I have.
