1100 – Another shell

Here is an evening sketch of another shell that I found laying around in my Airbnb apartment. This one is a lot more complicated than the conch I drew the other day. Apparently this one is called a Giant Caribbean Triton Conch!

1091 – Beautiful conk

The other day I posted something about the conches of Turks and Caicos and how the meat is a popular food here. Then I found that my landlady had put a conch shell outside as a decoration – so I borrowed it to do a sketch. The interior of the shell is such a beautiful smooth pink colour, my sketch doesn’t do it justice. I called the sketch beautiful conk because that’s how they pronounce conch here – conk as in big nose!

1087 – Conch beach

I am really behind with posting so I am sharing two sketches today. This one was done last weekend when I walked to the nearest beach. It’s not really called Conch Beach it’s just that it was scattered with hundreds of conch shells. The conch meat is a favourite here – it supposedly tasted a bit like clam but is more rubbery. The queen conch is endangered and there is only one conch farm in TCI on Providenciales which is supposed to supply to the whole country…I wonder why there were so many shells on this beach then? You can read more about TCI conches here: https://www.visittci.com/nature-and-history/flora-and-fauna/conch
