The last few days I have spend a lot of time at the Chinese Embassy queuing up to get a visa (for our coming holiday next week). The first time round they wouldn’t accept the application because the needed to see my old passport (don’t ask why)…second time round it was accepted – but of course I have to go back next week and collect the passports – hopefully with visas! Naturally I made use of my waiting time.

This is the last sketch I did last Saturday. This is apparently the world’s largest Chinatown arch – inaugurated in 2015. It’s pretty spectacular and very colourful and complicated – I only managed to capture a bit of it.

Yesterday I had a quick lunch with my wife who wanted to eat Chinese – I couldn’t resist doing an ink and watercolour drawing of the lamp shades. What I’ve drawn is actually a reflection in a big mirror.

Last night I ate at a restaurant called Chopsticks. There was virtually no-one on the second floor where I ate, so despite best intentions I had to draw an empty room. As part of a Chinese New Year promotion, I drew a card from a pack – and pulled out a rooster card, with the result that everything, including desert and a drink, was free! How lucky.
