1857 – A small treat

On Sunday, as a small treat, we went to the small coffee shop down the road to have breakfast. They don’t exactly have a fantastic menu (for vegetarians at least), but they have good coffee and a nice spot to sit outside. This is the view of the next table.

709 – Breakfast

Here is my sketch of the day – following the Doodlewash May challenge prompt of “breakfast”. Sometimes just coffee has to be enough. We’ve gone through several filter coffee makers (and had a long and painful experience with a Krups espresso maker which broke down so many times I lost count), but this Bodum ‘French press’ has served us well for 20 years or more!

699 – Breakfast by the pool

I sketched this on my last day in Amman while having breakfast. The big guy on the right appeared half way though my drawing, so I had to add him in. All the time I was at the Bristol Hotel I didn’t see anyone using the pool – either because it’s too cold or because you’d be swimming in front of everyone at the restaurant.

#439 – Breakfast by the pool

Today I finally managed to find time to sketch in the daylight. I did this one after having my breakfast. The restaurant of my hotel is partly arranged around a swimming pool, so I haven’t been swimming as you’d be bathing right in front of an audience. One couple chose a far away spot to eat, perhaps so the lady could take off her headscarf. The trunk is part of a big artificial palm tree.

Day 224 – Creaminess for breakfast

Today I had coffee and breakfast in Krispy Creme – the furniture and floor were all the same creamy colour and outside it was rainy and grey. I battled with this a little – adding pastel to water-colour and pencil to try and get the right atmosphere. Funny how even the blandest of settings are enjoyable to look at when you’re drawing.
