42-1356 – Kite surfers

My landlady warned me that the weather was going to change on Saturday afternoon. But still I went for a walk to the beach. Wow it was windy – sand got in everything including my paints. These two guys didn’t seem to care though – several times they were lifted up into the air on their kites.

1286 – Dog on beach

Here is another non-Christmassy sketch from our trip to Casa Amara – this one done on the beach, in the drizzle…hence the white splotches over the paint. On the right is a dog curled up – though my daughter thought it was a pumpkin and my wife thought it was a dwarf!

1266 – Pelican sunset

Another beach drawing done at the end of my long walk last Sunday. I’ve seen many paintings on line, of sunsets, but this is my first. As I only sketch in-situ I don’t get many opportunities! Naturally this was painted very quickly as it soon got dark. If you are wondering about the title, the beach is called Pelican Beach.

1257 – Grace Bay – under destruction

Here is the second sketch I did on my Saturday walk down the beach (I can’t say that beaches are my favourite thing to sketch – I always struggle to get the idea of surf and waves). It’s a beautiful part of the island – I had the place all to myself apart from 1 or 2 other walkers/strollers. In the background is the famous Grace Bay beach…in my opinion rapidly being spoilt by over-development. But of course if you are staying in one of the resorts there, looking out, you only see the beautiful sea and beach, so may have a different perspective!

1256 – Pelican beach

Yesterday I walked to the beach near my place – which apparently is called pelican beach…though of course, no pelicans around. I wanted to take a nice long walk from this point towards Grace Bay, but found the way blocked by some landowners sea defences, built right down to the water. Perhaps at low tide it’s possible to walk along the sand. Anyway I did this hurried sketch and went back to the road to find a way to get on the beach further down.

1191 – The coconuts are here

Here is the last sketch I did on our little weekend trip to Lobo – someone was selling coconuts on the beach so we got some as I was drawing this. I used to think the only type of coconut was the old ones – with the thick meat inside, but the young green ones are full of delicious coconut water and a skilled person can chop the top off with a big knife to give you a refreshing and health drink.
