104-3126 – Upside down house

On our first day in Hove we took a walk along the sea front into Brighton, passing through George Street, visiting the Boat Museum and a traditional hall of mirrors. When we stopped for coffee along the way I sketched this…and we debated what colour it is! I think it’s cobalt green but my wife and daughter said it’s blue! Then after lunch at Happy Maki, we walked home, so we certainly got our steps in that day. In town I bought a huge pad of Cass Art smooth paper and some fine Posca pens.

104-3125 – Laxfield house

Here is the last sketch I did in Suffolk (before we headed to Hove and Brighton after seeing my sister to say goodbye) – a quick drawing as I sat next to my mum outside her room in Laxfield House. It was lovely sunny weather. I sketched almost the same view (but from inside), back in Feb 2022 (see sketch No.1977).

Here is another sketch done in the square in Bildeston – this time looking in the opposite direction from the one I did on 17 May. We checked out of “top house” and had some time to kill before we went to see my mum (who get’s up late), so we sat in the square and enjoyed the sun.

104-3123 – Spoons again

On this day we went into Bury St. Edmunds to buy a coat for my wife’s birthday and had lunch first. Wetherspoons is cheap and simple so we picked that – we sat in almost the same spot as when we were there in December 2022 (see sketch No.69-2267), so I sketched the same scene. My sketching style hasn’t changed a bit…though I think I captured the scene better this time?

104-3119 – Coffee on arrival – everyone in black coats

This is my first sketch done in the UK on our holiday. When we arrived we decided to wait to collect our hire car (so that we could drop it off at an appropriate time of day in 3 weeks), even though the arrival process in UK was smooth and fast. We felt freezing cold when we finally ventured out to get the car (despite it being springtime). At Caffè Nero, where I sketched this, everyone seemed to be wearing black overcoats!

104-3118 – Snack at Ka Tunying’s

Finally I am starting to post my sketches done on our holiday to the UK. We arrived at the airport in Metro Manila 4 hours(!) before our flight, anticipating a long process. I wasn’t far off – we had to queue for more than an hour to check in. Then, of course, our flight transiting through BKK was delayed and we had a mad dash to the gate in Bangkok. This sketch was done in the airport when we had something to eat before departing.
