864 – There’s a deer in the bushes

Last Thursday I was in Global City after getting a health check up. I couldn’t miss the opportunity to sketch something so I got a cheap cup of coffee at Seattle’s Best, sat outside and drew this. I only noticed the deers head in the bush when I started drawing – no idea why it’s there….maybe part of some topiary?

773 – St. Francis

Here is the second drawing that I did with Urban Sketchers Manila on Saturday. On the right it Sta. Ana Church (also called Our Lady of the Abandoned) and to the left St. Francis High School. I had to rush to finish this before it started raining.

748 – Old and new

Here is my second sketch done last Saturday at the American University of Beirut. Behind this unassuming old university building (and outside of the campus) are some rather ugly modern efforts.

747 – Sunshine at the AUB

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to have a free afternoon before I caught my flight back home from Beirut, so naturally I took the opportunity to do some sketching. The American University of Beirut (AUB) was established in 1866 and the campus has some lovely gardens and old buildings. This sketch also serves as my first for the Doodlewash June challenge, the prompt being “sunshine”…though I still have a couple to post for the May challenge!

#616 – Tiendesitas Buffet

After shopping today I had a spare bit of time to sketch this from a coffee shop, while waiting for my daughter to finish her gymnastics classes. Tiendesitas is a collection of small shops and boutiques housed under a series of pointy roofs. Obviously somewhere in there is an ‘Authentic Thai Buffet’.

#615 – Pasig river, in Makati

Today I made my “annual appearance” at the immigration office – foreigners resident in the Philippines have to show up at the beginning of the year to prove they are still here. On my way back I stopped along Pasig River (which today wasn’t as smelly as it was last year) and drew this. The odd shaped building is part of Acqua Private Residences – the big blocks rising around it – which are shrouded in green mesh while under construction. To the left are lot of little higgledy-piggledy houses, which frankly look a lot nicer!

#614 – Valentine in park

Today I was out running a few errands and took the opportunity to sketch this in Bonifacio Global City – my first attempt at a double spread in this format of sketchbook. While I was drawing some students interviewed me for their video project, asking questions about Valentine’s Day: who I think of on the day (my wife of course), how you show someone you love them etc. I also had the pleasurable company of a stray cat while I drew, who proceeded to get into my bag of kit as soon as I opened it.
