1243 – Niece and nephew

Here is a (bit of a muddled) sketch I did at our family get together at memorial park for All Saints Day (called Day of the Dead in Latin America). It rained most of the night but with pavilion tents set up everyone managed to say dry. After a few hours (at 1:30am) I retired to the car and fell asleep!

898 – All Saints’ Day

I missed one sketch because I spent the night of 31st with the whole extended family at the memorial park, where my wife’s father and mother are buried. Doing this is a Filipino custom called Undas (the 1st is also called day of the dead) – family members visit the grave of loved ones and are supposed to remain at the grave for the entire day, socialising and saying prayers. We usually start at midnight on the 31st and stay until the morning of the 1st, as the memorial park is crowded with thousands of people on the actual day. We also have candles burning all night – so that’s why I drew this the next day.
