#571 – Church doorway

Yesterday we went for a short early morning walk and stopped and sketched at the local church. By the time I finished my painting I couldn’t feel my fingers – when the wind blows it’s bitterly cold! In case it’s not clear, the leaning shapes in front of the doorway are gravestones.

#568 – Ice skating at Brighton pavilion

Our first stop in the UK was Sussex University where our daughter is studying. On Tuesday she took us in to Brighton where there is an ice skating rink set up outside the Royal Pavilion. I did this sketch from the warmth of a coffee shop, while watching our daughters skate. I got the dates mixed up on the drawing because of the jet lag!

#566 – Traffic jam

The other day we spent 3 hours stuck in the traffic trying to get to my daughters gymnastics classes – we never made it. Frustrating though it was (actually fairly normal at this time of year in Manila), I at least managed to do a sketch!

Last Thursday I went to the local municipal hall to pay our property tax. Thinking that with local bureaucracy I would be waiting for a long time, I started a sketch. Instead they were very efficient and I hardly had time to start let alone finish….anyway here is what I managed.

Yes, it’s back to the gym again – more training for my daughter who will be entering competitions next year. Today there was a big group of young girls practicing on the beam. The two on the left are actually the same girl!

#563 – Tree of twigs at Royal Palm Entrance

ACE.563-tree of twigs at royal palm entrance 171211-2-wm

Today before doing some work sitting in our clubhouse, I did a quick sketch of the Christmas tree the condo managers have created at the entrance area. It’s a strange affair, with the upper part made of painted twigs, then below are little houses above lots of parcels, all made from carboard boxes. In the middle is a speaker that plays Christmas music! On top of all that it was really difficult to draw.
