99-2977-9 – Pasinaya 2025

Museo de Intramuros

On Saturday 1 Feb we joined #UskManila as the #Pasinaya2025 arts festival – the launch event for National Arts Month. This is the third time I have joined (see sketches No. 2300 in 2023 and No. 2584 from last year) – it’s an annual festival that celebrates Filipino creativity and culture and is organised by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). This years theme was “Para Sa Lahat” (which means “For Everyone”).

Reception reflection

I joined up to do some sketching demonstrations – the first at the Museo de Intramuros, where I sketched the courtyard while we waited for things to start. The second sketch was done in the lobby of the museum. The third sketch was done near the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez (also called the Black Box) theatre in the afternoon, as a second sketching demonstration. Pasinaya is free to join by anyone but the majority of participants seemed to be young students. A huge group joined in and it was great fun.

72-2348 – Frustrated writers

Here is my last sketch from Performatura done last Saturday with #UskManila. This is just a compilation of various speakers – all of whom were reading short pieces of writing. Some figures are a combination of several people (head from one speaker, torso from another and legs from a third), as they were speaking for only a few minutes each.

72-2347 – Chelsea/Arceli

Here is another sketch from the Performatura event at the CCP complex, done last Saturday. This gentleman was sitting working on his laptop a few seats down from me. The thumbnail sketches are of some of the speakers, some of whom spoke with real emotion – I only caught two names (Chelsea and Arceli).

72-2345 – National artist Abad

On Saturday I joined #UskManila sketching at the Performatura Festival (a performance and literature festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines). Speaking on the first day was Gemino Abad talking about “The Word as Theatre” – he’s the guy on the right (the other person was doing an introductory talk). They weren’t standing together – I just sketched one person after the other on the same page.
